MCR Committee

The members of the MCR committee are all volunteers and are elected to their offices at the end of each calendar year. They then hold their office for one year. Below you can also find details of the co-opted positions.

All the committee members and the co-opted positions have dedicated e-mail addresses. These are given in the form mcr-officer@sel. In order to find the correct e-mail address, simply add .cam.ac.uk to the end of this.

The vice president acts as MCR representative for external matters, and liaises with CUSU and the Graduate Union. The vice-president also serves as Welfare Officer for the MCR.

 
Secretary

The secretary is responsible for keeping MCR members informed of important news and events and also for taking minutes at committee meetings. The secretary is also the person you want to email to buy formal hall tickets.

 
Treasurer

The treasurer yields both the cheque book and the debt collecting stick! The treasurer is responsible to the college bursar for keeping the MCR accounts in shape and making sure our budget is spent correctly.

 
Ents Officer

The Entertainments Officer organises events for the MCR members. Broadly speaking, the Ents officer is in charge of the larger MCR events such as MCR Dinners.

 
Social Secretary

The social secretary organises social activities for the MCR members. Broadly speaking, the social secretary is responsible for the smaller scale, but more frequent, events such as Work in Progress talks, film nights and so on. That said, the social secretary will also help the Ents officer with the larger events in order to share some of the work load and responsibility.

 
Computing Officer

The holder of this position is responsible for the upkeep of the MCR’s computers, manages the MCR email list and maintains the technical and design aspects of the MCR website. This officer is also responsible for liaising with the Selwyn computer office.

 
Common Room Officer

The Common Room officer is responsible for the MCR room and looks after furnishings, crockery, cutlery etc, oversees recycling and keeps the notice boards up to date. Most importantly, they are responsible for fulfilling members' caffeine addictions, and makes sure there is enough tea and coffee! If you find that anything has run out or something needs fixing, please e-mail them.

Green Officer

This officer ensures the MCR’s compliance with the Cambridge city council’s regulations regarding recycling, as well as works to encourage awareness amongst members over the importance of conservation. In their first capacity, the officer ensures that recycling is taking place within each Selwyn graduate residence and that all the proper materials are being provided to students for this purpose. The green officer works to develop strategies for better environmental awareness amongst the MCR members, as well as formulating plans for making the MCR and the hostels more environmentally friendly. The green officer also sits on the College Environmental committee, working with the College to ensure that it is doing all it can to be as environmentally friendly as possible.

 
International Officer

This officer serves as a source of information as well as support for those students who have come from abroad to become part of the Selwyn MCR. Responsibilities of this position include meeting new international arrivals, answering questions relating to the practical matters that need to be dealt with when starting life in England and providing support to help students adjust to life in another country. The international officer also serves to foster cultural exchange between the various nationalities which comprise the MCR’s members and holds educational and social events, such as international dinners, in order to further this goal.

 
Female Welfare Officer

The female welfare officer is the contact for female welfare issues (the Vice President is in charge of welfare in general and male-welfare).
 
LGBT Officer

The LGBT officer provides a welfare contact for LGBT students and LGBT curious students, and promotes LGBT events in the MCR.
