Students coming to Selwyn find it to be a welcoming and friendly place. Here is one person's view of life at Selwyn.

Hwasung "Mars" Lee, from South Korea, was at Selwyn in 2006-7, taking a Part III Mathematics course. He writes:Hwasung "Mars" Lee

"The year when I was studying in Cambridge was the first year for me to live abroad alone. I had to adopt to a complete new environment; not surprisingly Cambridge and Seoul were completely different. The language was different, the culture was different, the banks worked differently, and even the cars drove on the other side of the road. It was completely stressful to do course work while also trying to adjust to the new environment. Selwyn's graduate community, the MCR, really helped me out in settling in. The people in the MCR helped me open a bank account, gave me advice where to go for grocery shopping, and organized various events for socializing. Moreover the MCR made Cambridge feel like home. When I went back to Seoul after a year in Selwyn to visit my family, I felt so homesick and wanted to return to Cambridge!

To me, Selwyn was not just a college, it was more like a family. I can't imagine how I would manage to settle in UK without the help of Selwyn's friendly atmosphere."
